    Safa

Hello everyone! My name is Safa Zanial and I am 23 years old. I was born in New Zealand but raised my whole life in the U.S., specifically California. I have been working as a Math tutor for five years now. I worked in different settings with different ages and taught math topics ranging from Elementary school to University level math. At Alexander Tutoring, I tutor mostly Algebra and Geometry to students in middle school and high school. I earned my Associates in Mathematics two years ago from Chaffey Community College where I also tutored at their Math Success Center for three years. However, this path changed when I transferred to the University of California, San Diego and decided to switch my major over to Clinical Psychology. I realized after a couple of years, that math has always been a hobby and my passion to teach it and tutor it stems from the struggles I encountered in math when I was younger. I am devoted to help students overcome the fear, struggles, and resentment they have towards math and to understand that math is not a natural skill but is mastered through hard work, effort, and rigorous practice. I do believe that everyone has the ability to master this unique language and in believing this, I do my part to cultivate our next generations of future mathematicians.

    Travis

Travis knew from a very young age that teaching math is the only thing he would like to be doing later on in life. A handful of truly amazing teachers set a great example and inspired him to want to help others with the subject that most people find difficult or intimidating, math.

Travis received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Arkansas while also private tutoring for several high school and college students. Working through different difficult topics with an array of students cemented what he already knew. He spent the next 9 years working for tutoring centers as well as continuing to tutor on his own.

Travis feels very comfortable working with all ages of students and loves that teaching one on one allows him to plan specifically for what each student needs. He believes that progress in math comes from being comfortable and confident. These are the main teaching philosophies that he employs in order to make his lessons fun and effective.

    Ramesh

Ramesh received his Masters in Applied Mathematics from the University of Washington in Seattle and a Bachelor of Arts in Engineering Sciences and Philosophy from Dartmouth College.  He has taught all levels of mathematics at high schools, community colleges and universities for over six years, and has an additional 5 years of experience as a math tutor and teaching assistant.

With a background in engineering and applied mathematics, Ramesh is passionate about helping students understand why they are learning the math they are, and how it applies to the real world and their future studies.  Ramesh believes that mathematics underlies everything, is one of the most important things humans have discovered, and is indeed the language of the Universe.  He has developed lesson plans and presentations on non-Western approaches to mathematics, mathematics and climate change, and math for social justice.

In his free time Ramesh enjoys biking, playing tennis, painting and writing.  He also enjoys traveling and learning about different cultures and is writing a book about his many travel adventures.

    Krishann

Krishann obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Faulkner University. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Elementary Education in an effort to get her Ed.D. in Organizational Change and Leadership.

Fun fact about Krishann: she has been tutoring and aiding in math since age 10! Her passion for helping others started in a 5th-grade math classroom where she helped a classmate understand fractions. From that first interaction, Krishann has grown and continues to have a passion for helping others learn math. Her motto for helping her students understand math is “Changing Mindsets ONE Problem at a Time.”

When she is not caring for her mother and her dog, Champ Piccolo, she writes spoken word poetry as Queen Floetry, where she currently has three albums on all streaming platforms. She also sings and serves in her church, Rock City Church in Birmingham, Alabama.

    Tricia

Tricia loves helping students understand new math concepts in a way that makes sense to them, exploring together how to break problems into manageable parts, and seeing students’ happiness as they master new topics. Ever since she was in the student’s seat, what she found unique about math is the beauty of being able derive and prove concepts based on previous learnings. Her strength in tutoring is being able to explain concepts in everyday language.

She has 8 years of experience tutoring math for elementary, middle school, and high school students in private and school settings.

Tricia earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Mechanics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  She spent 9 years designing and testing equipment supporting high energy physics experiments and 21 years in product quality and global manufacturing processes for medical devices.  She left engineering to have more time to focus on family and worked part-time as a tutor, kindergarten aid, and math aid and found her second passion in tutoring math!

In her spare time, Tricia enjoys spending time with her family, kayaking, and going for walks in nature with her hubby
